State Representative Shawn Thierry Announces Filing for Re-Election
for Second Term in the Texas House of Representatives

For Immediate Release:

(HOUSTON, TX) – On Tuesday evening, December 5, 2017, State Representative Shawn Thierry filed for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives.

“It is my privilege and purpose to serve as a member of the Texas Legislature, and I’m happy to announce my bid for a second term as State Representative for District 146. I was born and raised in District 146, so it is an area that I know very well and love. I’ve also spent over 20 years as a lawyer fighting for the legal rights of victims. Now as a lawmaker in Austin, I take pride in advocating for the best interests of my constituents,” said Rep. Thierry.

Upon conclusion of the 85th Legislature, Representative Thierry emerged as a formidable Member of the House by passing a record number of bills during her first term, along with holding a solid voting record on a myriad of issues ranging from healthcare, protections for seniors, veterans’ rights, and public education. Going further, Rep. Thierry successfully petitioned to Governor Abbott to include the issue of maternal mortality to the Special Session call and gained national recognition for her work to prevent future pregnancy-related deaths of Texas women. She is a joint author of the maternal mortality legislation that was signed into law this year.

“After a strenuous, yet successful session, I returned back home last August with my ‘boots on the ground’ approach to constituent services. Post Hurricane Harvey, my District office served as a command center for information, clothing donations, household goods, and other emergency supplies. We sponsored food and water drives, and hosted one of the largest town halls to assist survivors with information on DSNAP assistance, and FEMA funding sources, including home elevation grant programs.”

Rep. Shawn Thierry serves as Vice Chair Of the Harris County Delegation, which comprises a bi-partisan membership of State Representatives throughout Harris County, Texas. She sits on the House Committees for County Affairs and Juvenile Justice & Family Issues and was named “Freshman of The Year” by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus.

“I am proud of the strength of both my residential and business constituents. We are hard-working people who care about safe neighborhoods, quality education, supporting small businesses and much more. With the support of the voters next March, we will continue increasing economic development for our communities, protecting our seniors and families, and will work together to implement solid plans to rebuild from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.”
